We're Different

I just wanna clarify stuffs between AOC and MBMYC, because there are people who don't seem to understand.

CDO-ASSET’s AIM ONE CAGAYAN is not similar to MBMYC. 


MBMYC is more on getting informed and empowered, and yes they provide training as well. I was a delegate of MBMYC for 2 straight years. It was fun, and I could say it was worth it. 


AOC don't have the same approach as MBMYC. For AOC, it is not just training, informing and socializing – it’s more than that because we build on people’s lives.


It is a venue where participants are chiseled to become better individuals; it is a time when participants are immersed with their selves. 


I am not saying that AOC is better than MBMYC. I am saying that AOC deserves respect as well. 


You ask about experience? Ask our delegates. And make sure the other doesn’t outnumber the other - equal number of delegates. You can even ask our speakers about their experience and how happy they were being part of this noble endeavor. 


AOC was not organized to compete with MBMYC. In fact it could have been partners, AOC for city-wide then MBMYC for Mindanao-wide. Why do you see us as a competition? Are you threatened? Why are you threatened? MBMYC existed for almost a decade while AOC started just a few years ago. MBMYC is stable, while AOC isn't - because we are still learning, trying to stand, trying to prove something, trying to make SBM proud of us.


For those of you, who tried MBMYC and AOC, say something. For those of you who tried AOC, say something, because some people look down at us.

Aim One Cagayan

Aim One Cagayan or AOC is a three-day Leadership and Entrepreneurship Training Seminar – this was the AOC when we started this.

After three years of AOC, it has another description. It was more than just training. AOC is a time when participants are immersed with their selves. AOC is a venue where participants are chiseled to become a new individual. AOC is a life changing experience.

AOC started as just an event for CDO-ASSET. Yes, it was to train individuals – but when the first AOC was implemented, I saw value in it. It was more than just a “job well done” for me. That feeling that you were there, helping that person become strong, confident, and aware of their capabilities and limitations. It was very rewarding.

I never expected that AOC will reach as far as three years. And now I believe that it will last for more years. I could say that because I was there since the very beginning, and I saw how the participants responded. I even heard them say that what they’ve experience was priceless and they never regretted that they joined the event.

Every year, it warms my heart, seeing the delegates change, talking to them about their experience, their plans to be facilitator for the next AOC, their get-together plans, them already excited for the next AOC as early as the day after the event, them running for office in different organizations, them now holding positions in big companies, them now CPAs, them owning businesses. 

AOC is a God’s grace. When this started, I never thought it would turn out this way. I never thought that we could get those speakers – Efren Penaflorida, Reese Fernandez, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Noreen Bautista, Bam Aquino, Brian Quebengco… google their names. There were backlogs but in the end, with God's grace, the event was successful.

To all those who shared the endeavor in organizing and continuing to pursue this event every year, thank you so much.

To those who are trying to bring us (CDO-ASSET) down, thank you. Because of you, we learned to be better and better.

To those who don’t believe in us, thank you. Because of you, we are inspired us to do more so we can soon somehow change your impression on us.

We aim to change Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, and soon the Philippines. Maybe not now, but soon. I know the seeds that we’ve planted in every participant will grow and will nourish other’s heart.

Message to the Delegates of AOC3

2 years ago, CDO-ASSET wanted to have a small event. An event, though small, will create an impact to the participants, thus we founded, on November of 2009, and implemented on January of 2010, the Aim One Cagayan (AOC).

We started this event with the hope of changing the perspective of the youth, that we (the youth) can do something to help change Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, and eventually Philippines. It was indeed very ambitious, considering the fact that we were nobody in this city – just students.

In two years, we were able to train almost a hundred aspiring leaders who then became better individuals. After AOC, they were then holding positions in different organizations. They became somebody from nobody.

If I am not mistaken, most of you here attended because you were forced or forcedly convinced by the marketers, former delegate friends, or maybe because of the incentive your teacher might give you.  - Don’t worry, most, if not all of our delegates before were in that same situation.

In AOC, you get to be part of something fulfilling. You get see yourself and others grow and change perspective towards life, towards being young. You get to be part of the transformation, a transformation of a lifetime. You will be equipped and empowered by our speakers and activities.

AOC for me is an event similar to birthdays. It is very special and something to look forward to. What makes it even better is when you share that day with your good friends, and with great people.

I was there since the very beginning, and every year, according to Jacob, leaves imprints, it also makes new memories, new friends, new learning, new experience.

If you allow us to train and mold you, then I promise you three things. [1] You get to expand your network - meet new friends and the future leaders of our generation; [2] you will surely have fun; and lastly [3] you will become a newly chiseled person with confidence, ready to break down barriers and can face the world boldly.

To the delegates, may your three-day adventure with us be prolific and life changing as we share unto you the responsibility of a young leader and entrepreneur in changing Cagayan de Oro. Let us then take part in healing our economy, fueling growth and making the world a better place for us all.

Aim One Cagayan

3 years and counting, CDO-ASSET’s Aim One Cagayan was successful (again).

Small Background

Aim One Cagayan is a three-day Leadership and Entrepreneurship Training Seminar for the youth of Cagayan de Oro. This event aims to form young individuals to become CATALYSTS of positive change, new LEADERS and conscientious ENTREPRENEURS.

This was first implemented on January 8-10, 2010. The speakers were Efren Penaflorida – CNN Hero, and Reese Fernandez – Co-founder and President of Rags2Riches. 

The leaders who joined named their batch as “BULPAGS” or Bulawanong Paglantaw (Golden Perspective).

On January 28-30, 2011 marks the second AOC. The speakers were Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Noreen Bautista – Co-founder and Director of Jacinto and Lirio. 

The delegates named their batch as “SERVIVORS” (We serve. We survive.)

For the last two years, the training has already been at Mapawa Nature Park.

The Format

The event is grounded on Leadership and Entrepreneurship. There are small and big group activities with facilitators assigned to guide them. Every after activity, delegates undergo processing. By the end of the event, the delegates will choose their batch president and vice-president and batch name.

Every year, activities are leveled up, and the former delegates get to help in facilitating. Alumni (former staff and delegate) also get to visit during the training.

AOC 3, Feb 10-12 2012

This year, CDO-ASSET invited Brian Quebengco – Founder and Chief Inoventor of Inovent, Inc. and Bam Aquino.

Brian Quebengco stayed at Mapawa for the whole duration of the event. He helped the organizers in some of the processing activities. He even joined everybody in the rain during the day 2 activities.

On day 3, Bam Aquino arrived and gave his talk about entrepreneurship.

After the talk, the delegates had more processing at the lawn, and the speakers then went their way home.

After all the processing and activities the 3^rd Batch named, "COMRUST", became new individuals – bold, strong, and confident.

The batch named themselves as such for them to be reminded of the things that they lack during the training – Communication and Trust.

Christmas Outreach for the Victims of Sendong

Because of the Tragedy which happened midnight of December 17, 2011, Butter (Barkada name) and CDO-ASSET (Cagayan de Oro Alliance of Students Supporting the Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow) organized an outreach.

BUTTER GOES TO BALULANG December 20, 2011

4:00-6:00

My day started early since I still have to attend Simbang Gabi at Xavier University Chapel. After the mass, I immediately went home to change outfit and prepare some stuffs, then immediately headed to Carmen market to meet Cals and to buy stuffs.

6:00-7:00

At Carmen market, we bought ingredients for the food we plan to cook – we planned to give them cooked food and packed water since those were the immediate needs of the victims.

After buying, we cooked the food at Cala-anan – our place.

8:00-1:30

Slice. Cut. Chop. Cook. Pack. We finished preparing everything around 1:30pm. Eph was also there to help us.

We then headed to Nazareth, where we all should meet with Brogy and Ganz. Along the way we picked up Nhaia to assist us.

2:30-4:00

After preparing everything and loading all our goods, we set off to Balulang.

As we enter Balulang, you can already see how devastating the place was. You can see the river side.

I wasn’t able to take note which part of Balulang we gave out the foods we prepared. We were able to give out more than 120 units of packed food and almost 200 units of packed water.

We left the clothes we got by the chapel of Balulang, where there were volunteers. We entrusted our clothes to them that it will reach the victims.

It really feels nice to help others, most specially strangers. You don’t know them, they don’t know you. And it really pays the hard work if they appreciated your act.

I got home, very exhausted. I slept and woke up the next day.

The following day, I realized it was a whole day without eating breakfast, lunch and dinner.

CDO-ASSET GOES TO CONSOLACION December 21, 2011

4:00-6:00

Simbang Gabi then went home.

I waited for Ghai’s message since there was no final coordination the previous night.  

9:00-10:00

I had breakfast with Ghai at Tapsi Time, Dvsoria. Went back home to change clothes and get some stuffs, then to Carmen market.

10:00-12:00

Bought more stuffs. Waited for Binz and Romz. Cala-anan. Lunch.

12:30-6:30

Slice. Cut. Chop. Cook. Pack. It was already getting dark so we already lit the candles we had. Good thing my cousin, together with her friend was there to help us.

7:00-8:30

Giving out of goods. We passed by group of victims, lying by the street across Maxi’s – so we stopped to give them food. They even asked for water.

Our second stop was in front UCCP, for the victims staying under the flyover.

We also drove by in Consolacion and under the bridge.

8:45-9:30

Was at Park Café to get some air. Incidentally met some friends – sturya-sturya dayon sa mga stories/experiences.

The experience was very rewarding. The feeling that you were able to help in own simple ways was very fulfilling. I hope somehow the victims had a “little” sense of “merry” Christmas – though I know it wouldn’t be merry after all.
